Sad little Bumble

The other day while on our way to feed the neighbor's cat, Miss Bumble had a serious accident. She was riding in the back of our little Gator and bounced out. She fell onto the gravel road and hurt her little toes. She is slowly getting back to normal, but she is still limping around looking sad. This is a picture of her during her bed rest.

On the side of the interstate!

Beautiful Flowers

While on our way to my sister's house on Mother's Day, we spotted a beautiful sight. The most beautiful field of poppies that I have ever seen. We stopped and got a shot or two. You will never believe where they were.

Morel Mushrooms

With all of the needed rain that we have had lately; I have needed a reason to force myself to go outside to keep up my daily walks with Bumble and Zippy. It sometimes is hard to find motivation on a rainy day. I have seen pictures of morel mushrooms and knew that they probably grew here. I decided to try and find some in the woods that surround our property. Well....after many days of hunting......I was successful! I was just ready to give up when I looked down and about 4 inches from my foot was a morel. I have been having the best time finding these strange little mushrooms. I have to admit that I was so excited to find these first two mushrooms that I picked them before I got a shot of them in their native habitat. Here they are in my kitchen on a paper towel. They were very tasty! I hope to collect more of these beautiful mushrooms. They are the only wild mushroom that I feel comfortable collecting as they have very distinctive features that allow you to be confident that you have the real thing.

Well, furniture market and furniture rendering have taken over my life for the past few weeks. Also, a little kidney stone problem kept me entertained for about a week. I have not been able to post lately. Today, I actually got to stop working around 4:00 and went outside to work in the yard. Guess what? It started raining!!!! Oh well. I did get a little work done on my small pond in the garden that seems to be losing some water. One wonderful treat that I did have was the beautiful rainbow that arched right over the PumpkinFest site. PumpkinFest is the annual party that we have to enjoy the giant pumpkins. Enjoy the rainbow. Also, to answer the question about the picture on my title. Yes, that is my dear husband. That is a picture of Tater Hill. Funny name, beautiful place.

I am so excited about the warm weather we have been having. That means that it soon will be giant pumpkin planting time. For the past few years, I have been trying to grow giant pumpkins. I have had some success, but not the type of success that I would like. Last years pumpkin, weighed in at 425lbs. I would really like to get to the 800 lb. mark this year. I have chosen my seeds and am in the process of getting my patch ready to plant. I can't wait to get started! In the picture you can see some of the pumpkins that I grew last year, including the 425.

Well, I have sad news....I did not win... However, I am just still floored that I even got into the final round. We had a great reception for the photos this weekend and right after the reception we went to the Banff film festival at Appalacian State University. Unfortunatly, I was sick as a dog (that is funny) during the whole thing. Well, I guess there is always next year. The photo that won was the one with the dog hanging out of the window. I really think that is a great choice, because the theme was "share the journey". It is a great shot with the viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the back ground. Thanks again for everyone that voted for my photos!!! I really appreciate it.
