Orange Mushrooms

On a recent walk down the driveway to check our giant pumpkin crop, we came across these beautiful mushrooms. I have no idea what kind they are, but they are pretty. If you know what type they may be, please let me know. They are about 6 inches wide and are growing at the base of an old chestnut stump. Our recent rain has helped the mushroom population here. I do not eat wild mushrooms as I have no clue what is deadly and what is edible. Well, I do like morels, but they are the only ones that I can identify without killing myself.

  2. Hi Mike,

I never did find out what type of mushroom those were. They almost looked like a chanterelle, but they were very large. There are also many other mushrooms that resemble chanterelles. We had a really dry summer this year and they did not return. The picture does not do them justice as the color was very intense. If you have any ideas about the type...let me know.

    Thanks,

    Jill
