A Little Secret and Beautiful Flowers.

Well.....we just had to take the plunge.

You are looking at 3 week old Bulldog pups.
Of course...we picked the white one.
She has a little spot of red on her tail.

We will not pick her up for another 5 weeks or so and that is giving me time
to get used to the idea.

I hope that Zippy will learn to love her as much as he did Bumble.
I know that is a toss up, but we are prepared even it that does not happen.
She does not have a name yet other than her litter name...which is Angel.
As soon as I heard that..I knew she was the one...I used to call Bumble by that name sarcastically (when she was running from me with a shoe in her mouth) and
it seems that it was meant to be.

And....yes....I KNOW we are nuts.

The gladiolas have been spectacular this year!
The color on this one is amazing.

My garden is going crazy with blooms.

Here is a rare picture of me in front of a giant sunflower.
All of these sunflowers are volunteers from last years seeds.
I would estimate the tall one to be around 11 feet tall.

Another shot of the beautiful hot pink gladiola.

Scatter cat posed for me the other day.
As you can guess by her name...she is not easy to find most of the time
when you do see her she it darting off into the garden.

Scatter is one of the best hunters that I have ever seen.
(Of course she did let ratzilla live in the barn for year. )
We don't like to mention that in front of her because it is a little bit of a sore spot
on her rather stellar hunting record.

Oh yeah...and what about that vole that keeps going for my potatoes???
Someone needs to quit goofing off on the deck and get busy protecting the garden.

Another shot of the barn/house.
I forgot to answer a question about the house when I posted pictures of the new paint color.
We did not build this structure, and it already had a living space in the lower half.
The horses live in one side and we live in the other.  Very convenient when it is 10 degrees and snowing.  We are slowly but surely adding things to the upstairs to convert it into living space. day.....I will have a nice little painting studio and office upstairs.

More Gladiolas.

This is the largest pumpkin so far....Looking good!!

The mutant vine has now quadrupled itself and is really strange looking.
Of course...I forgot to get a picture of it!!

Another beauty.

Butterflies have been all over my cone flowers this week.

I know you are all sick of seeing my flowers by now!!

I just can't help it...

I am in big trouble if these guys get out....
They keep staring at my flowers and I can tell they want to eat them.
So far....May has not broken into the pumpkin patch, but I think she is just working up a master plan.
Waiting until I least expect it.

Zippy is STILL trying to get into the garden to eat the vegetables.

He is so bad!
He even ate the broccoli plants that I pulled up the other day!

Gus right before a swim.

Taking this moment to give a shout out to my friend and neighbor who was in a serious
car accident this past week.  She was driving home and a young man that was not
paying attention to the road and driving well over the speed limit (they estimated at least 70 a 35 mph zone).  He went left of center and hit my friend who was desperately trying to get out of the way.
My friend has very serious injuries and will have a long road of recovery.
Hang in there MA!!
Hoping you get to come home soon.

  1. Not at all surprised. Congratulations!!! Here's hoping all goes well with your friend. I've been in some near misses this summer with distracted drivers. How awful it is to have your life messed up by someone's inattention.

  2. Glad to hear that the garlic arrived. When do I get to see the post? Crazy? What's crazy about getting a puppy for Zippy that you can share? She is are the rest.

Your gardens are fabulous and that is the tallest sunflower I have ever seen.

Two years ago Gary was hit broadside by a woman who went through a stop sign over 60 mph. His truck was airborne and when he came down, was hit by another car. He was in better shape than the other two (women) but it was a life changing experience. Be prepared to have your friend feel very emotional for some time. Please wish her a speedy recovery for me.

    That is some pumpkin.

  3. Look at that sweet puppy face! Angel is adorable. Congratulations! I know that she won't replace the hole in your heart, but she will bring great joy to you!

I hope your neighbor is okay - that's terrible!

  4. Your world is so beautiful. Drop by our blog and take a peak of Quigley, my niece's bulldog. He's a doll!!

    Rottie Kisses

  5. I don't think you're crazy at all. What an adorable puppy! And you can keep the garden photos coming. Your flowers are so beautiful.

I hope your neighbor is okay.

  6. now dont tempt me for bulldog puppies
they grow into mountains of personalities!

  7. We are just thrilled for you! Angel is so cute!
    Your flowers are just gorgeous!

    Love ya lots
    Maggie and Mitch

  8. Those are the most beautiful gladiola I have ever seen. I never get tired of looking at flowers, but then I'm a botanist! So sorry to hear about your neighbor, that's just awful. Sending her healing thoughts. The puppy is cute, and seems perfectly destined to play in the mud with Zippy and guard the great pumpkin. That's an amazing sunflower! I'm enjoying the rain from my cabin in Brevard and actually remembered how to use an umbrella!

  9. you are so not crazy!! Seeing that adorable baby makes me weak in the knees. I am a big believer in signs - like her name being Angel. Your flowers are absolutely stunning - and your hair doesn't look pink in the picture. : )

    So sorry about your neighbor!

  10. Great pictures as usual. Its Bumbles angel..good decision for you and Zippy. At first Lily wanted me to go away but now she loves me

  11. Let me just tell you that you are not crazy! There is nothing sweeter than a bulldog. They are little bundles of mischief but at the end of the day there is nothing better than a bulldog cuddle. Angel is a very lucky girl to have your beautiful place in which to grow!

    Mamma Heartbeat

  12. Oh, I'm so excited about the pup. It's going to be wonderful watching her grow up! And I never get tired of looking at flowers.

  13. Too cute ... I'm very pleased that your taking on another Bully! Can't wait to hear more and see more. Way too cute!

  14. Good grief~ those have to be the biggest sunflowers I've ever seen. Pretty picture of you, gal! And I love all your beautiful blooms.

Jill, I am so happy for you... I think Angel is "perfect". I know Bumble will forever be in your heart but there is always room for more love isn't there? I'm looking forward to "Angel's Adventures"! *squeeeal*

  15. This darling little dog will not replace Bumble, but will fill the hole in your heart. Good for you! I always wanted to live in a house/barn, like they have in Europe. I think it's cool! Your glads are wonderful!
